Carolina Rose Campground Review

The Carolina Rose Campground is located at 185 Jim Neely Road, Salisbury, NC 28144, near I-40 and I85 in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, about an hour from Charlotte and 45 minutes from Lake Norman. Our reviewer, avid camper Frank Sullivan, took his family to the Carolina Rose Campground the weekend of September 18-20th. Here are his thoughts!

The Carolina Rose Campground is a great “local” destination…

for the avid camper in the Charlotte metro area to get away from it all, and of course for the tourists who pass through on I-40 and I-85! Easy to find, it’s a lovely destination campground which I and my family will definitely be going back to in the future.

When you arrive, they check you in, just like most other campgrounds. Carolina Rose Campground features a small store with basic staples and small parts. The campground offers seasonal camp spaces, and they have sites with full hook-ups and electric-only as well as regular tent camping sites, which makes for a good variety of options. The spot we were in was level, which is always a plus for RV people. There are plenty of trees for shade, without blocking the great views of the lake.

All activities are included with your site, and they’ve got plenty to choose from!

The Carolina Rose Campground offers amenities including:

  • Paddle boats
  • Catch and release fishing
  • Putt-putt Golf
  • Event area and a small event center
  • Entertainment pavilion
  • Short hiking trail near the campsites
  • Pool for guest use
  • Play area
  • Bathhouses
  • An amazing petting zoo with feed; features pigs, goats, chickens and alpacas
  • Fresh eggs for sale

A funny story in connection with the last two points: When we went to the petting zoo, my daughter fell in love with one of the chickens, who she promptly christened “Clucky.” Much like a trained dog, Clucky would jump up when offered treats, and even became so comfortable he ended up sitting in my lap! (Disclaimer: This is not usual behavior, so don’t expect this when you are there!) Also much like a dog, Clucky followed us to our campsite and hung out for a while, much to the delight of my whole family! (I may have to rethink tonight’s dinner menu, but it’s a small price to pay for the joy on my daughter’s face.)

Carolina Rose Campground Is Under New Ownership…

The campground is under new ownership and management, and both owners and staff are incredibly friendly and go above and beyond for their guests. The people at the campground store were kind enough to loan us a 50A adapter, because our camper is rated for 30A. Most places won’t do that!

Also, over the weekend there was a hot day. I turned on the air conditioner and closed the door. Unfortunately, the door locked behind us–which we didn’t learn until we returned from our hike and found my keys and phone on the wrong side of the door! One of the employees, who I believe was named Michelle (sorry if I got your name wrong!), who lives onsite, offered to run and get her trailer key to see if she could use that to open our door. As it happened, the key didn’t fit the door–but it DID fit the storage hatch, which let me get at my toolbox and the equipment I needed to jimmy open the door.

All in all, we had a wonderful time. I can highly recommend the Carolina Rose Campground to anyone who wants a reasonably short drive, beautiful surroundings and a campground and staff who really cares about the enjoyment of their guests and first-rate facilities. My family and I will definitely be back, and we’re grateful to the Carolina Rose Campground staff and management for helping us make memories we’ll treasure for a lifetime!
