When cabin fever recently struck the home of one of our roving campground contributors, he loaded up the camper, packed up the family, and headed about 4½ hours south of Charlotte Metro. They landed at CreekFire RV Resort, which is located at 275 Fort Argyle Rd, Savannah, GA, ½ mile west of I-95 and within an easy drive of Hwy 77. Here’s what our intrepid explorer and his family had to say about their experience!

The Drive and Arrival To CreekFire RV Resort

CreekFire RV Resort is listed as both a Passport America and Good Sam park with a 9.5 Good Sam rating, an easy drive from the Charlotte metro area. Trip routing was very straightforward. If you get hungry, need to rest or just want to stretch your legs for a few minutes, there are three or four rest areas along the route where you can pull in and get a vending machine snack. [...]

The Carolina Rose Campground is located at 185 Jim Neely Road, Salisbury, NC 28144, near I-40 and I85 in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, about an hour from Charlotte and 45 minutes from Lake Norman. Our reviewer, avid camper Frank Sullivan, took his family to the Carolina Rose Campground the weekend of September 18-20th. Here are his thoughts!

The Carolina Rose Campground is a great “local” destination…

for the avid camper in the Charlotte metro area to get away from it all, and of course for the tourists who pass through on I-40 and I-85! Easy to find, it’s a lovely destination campground which I and my family will definitely be going back to in the future.

A few weeks ago, one of our campground contributors Matt took his family for a weekend of camping at the beach. This time around, they went to Cedar Island Resort, which is located in Cedar Island, NC on the North Carolina coast near the Outer Banks Ferry Terminal. Here’s what Matt had to say!

Cedar Island Resort is located about 5 ½-6 hours out of Charlotte off Cedar Island Rd, Cedar Island, North Carolina. Their website features solid travel guide links and a complete list of amenities and nearby attractions including Cedar Island restaurants

It was a lovely drive on mostly small roads, with only a few hills of any substance, which is a nice bonus when you’re hauling a trailer. We arrived late in the evening, and the entrance to the resort from Cedar Island Rd. is a little confusing. The entrance is on the right side of the roadway, near Cedar Island Ferry Terminal. [...]

Over the Memorial Day weekend, Mark Sullivan one of our contributors, and his family wanted to get away to the mountains. They landed at Bear Den Mountain Resort & Campground, which is located in the Pisgah National Forest, off the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 324.8 close to Spruce Pine, NC. Here’s what Mark had to say!

We set off on our journey to Bear Den Campground on a beautiful, sunny Friday, May 22nd. It was a nice, short two-hour drive. The first you notice about Bear Den Mountain is that it is a true mountain resort and campground, about 3,000 up in the air, and very beautiful.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by very friendly staff. They really tried to let people know their safety is [...]
